The Nini Bag pays homage to our founder’s darling sister, Nirali or “Nini”, who has Down syndrome. From all sales, 20% will be donated to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to further the impactful work the organization does to support people with Down syndrome in enhancing their quality of life, realizing their life aspirations and becoming valued members of welcoming communities.
NDSS was founded in 1979 by Betsy Goodwin. Over the years, the NDSS has grown nationally and has awarded research grants to scientists to learn more about Down syndrome, hosted scientific symposiums to bring awareness, provided platforms for parent support groups, and among other notable initiatives, has also worked on furthering legislation to fight for the rights and access for individuals with Down syndrome.
The shape of the bag, borrowed from behno’s signature Hannah Tote silhouette with its wrapping side seams, is handcrafted in a durable cotton canvas with soft, supple leather trims. Designed in NYC and inspired by Nini’s love for traveling with her robust collection of DVDs and portable DVD player, the bag travels well with a main compartment capable of fitting all the modern person’s needs. Red details within the bag point to the official color of the NDSS. Flat leather handles. External pocket detail with signature behno wave cardholder and hardware. Constructed with expert attention to detail.
