behno was named winner of Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards in Accessories in 2019.

The nomination is based on brand viability, branding, sales and distribution, and personal interviews. Previous winners of Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award include Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Phillip Lim, among others.

HONOR: COMMONWEALTH FASHION EXCHANGE AT THE BUCKINGHAM PALACE, LONDON

behno was the only American brand invited to be in the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange to showcase an ethical fashion eveningwear look incorporating elements from the Commonwealth countries of India and Tuvalu at the Buckingham Palace. The look was presented to Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton and celebrated in a reception attended by industry leaders, including Anna Wintour, Livia Firth, Edward Enninful, among others.

behno was one of 30 brands, including Stella McCartney, Burberry, and Karen Walker involved in this exclusive project, which was held confidential until the week the exchange was debuted. The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange went on a world tour, with the looks being showcased at Buckingham Palace, The Australia House, The United Nations, and finally at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

TOP FIVE FINALIST: LIVIA FIRTH’S GREEN CARPET CHALLENGE, PARIS & MILAN

behno was nominated for the highest award in sustainability in the fashion industry. The brand was shortlisted for top 10, where behno founder, Shivam Punjya, pitched to a jury in Paris comprised of Ellie Goulding, Vogue UK editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful, CNN style correspondent, Derek Blasberg, television host and philanthropist, Petra Nemcova, investor, Carmen Busqets, Matchesfashion.com fashion director, Natalie Kingham, among others.

behno was enlisted as a top five finalist and attended The Green Carpet Awards in Milan, held at the Teatro alla Scala. The Green Carpet Awards were founded by Livia Firth and have been attended by the likes of Anna Wintour, Cate Blanchett, among other movers and shakers of the fashion and media worlds.

behno was a top five finalist in the Accessories Council’s Design Excellence Award for the “Hand- bags Under $1000” category.

behno was in exciting company; Fendi, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Chloe, Sperry, Frances Valentine, among others are finalists as well, all spanning across their respective categories.

The bag behno submitted for the award truly integrates The behno Standard on various levels and speaks to both our ethical and design philosophy. The drop cloth itself is up-cycled from block printers, the embroidery tells the story of the artisans we work with, and the bag itself is made in a factory that we’re so proud to call a partner. The bag itself is the smallest size from our iconic Ina series.

HONOR: SHOWCASING THE GARMENT WORKER PROJECT AT SOTHEBY’S, NYC

behno was invited by Sotheby’s to debut its Garment Worker Project, which was shot by fashion photographer Dan Smith and filmed by Kent Mathews. The reception was co-hosted by celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger and Shivam Punjya to showcase the human side of fashion and celebrate MSA Ethos.

The project, a first of its kind, garnered international attention and was the first time a celebrity stylist took a strong position on ethical manufacturing.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT: FASHION AS A SOCIAL MOBILIZER AT THE UNITED NATIONS, NYC

behno founder, Shivam Punjya, was invited to the United Nations to speak on fashion as an industry capable of mobilizing communities and consumers for social change and global impact and share his story and social enterprise model. The talk was attended by diplomats, figureheads, and industry veterans.

For the first time, the United Nations discussed the fashion industry as a mobilizer for change by inviting six leaders in the fashion space to present their business models to discuss best practices and stimulate dialogue.

LAUNCH: HANDBAG COLLECTION ONE WITH BERGDORF GOODMAN, NYC

behno launched its first handbag collection in Fall 2018 with Bergdorf Goodman, celebrating with a breakfast with industry insiders, reporters, and editors from the fashion world. Betty Halbreich, Bergdorf Goodman’s most coveted personal shopper, attended the launch breakfast.
