OUR PARTNER FACTORY

Our partner factory spends much time ensuring it minimizes its environmental impact by sustainably sourcing its materials and subsequently recycling any waste, including plastics, metals, and leather. The factory is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by utilizing state- of-the-art, energy saving machinery and infrastructure. The factory is REACH compliant, to protect its workers’ human health, and also ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified, assuring it has an effective environmental management system in place. The factory also incrementally implements extended elements of The behno Standard.

HANDS AND TOOLS.

To emphasize the value the craft of making holds, the behno team fosters old-world craftsmanship for new world needs. The attention to detail, the slow, meticulous construction of an object is paramount to both our factory partner and us—we want to create beautiful pieces that you grow into over the years to come.

“NASHIK HAS BECOME HOME FOR US.”

NASHIK

The behno team spends much time in Nashik, the city where our partner factory in India is based. Nashik is one of the oldest cities of India, located in the western state of Maharashtra, and is about a four-hour car journey from Mumbai. The car-ride crosses various terrains— cityscape, mountains, vast farmlands, and rivers—on both bumpy and smooth roads.

We go to the factory to do quality control, experiment with design development, build relationships, and most importantly, to get a pulse of what’s going on in the field at a grassroots level.

On Saturdays, when the day the factory shuts for its weekly break, the team takes the day to explore and absorb the city—its markets, temples, local vineyards, caves, and all the beautiful sights making the city so special. The colors, its vibrancy, the people, and its peri-urban setting foster an intimacy with a space unique to Nashik.
